[ It's been about a week since they had their conversation, so it's time for a follow up. Also, Gintoki has a lot of fun irritating this man and he's bored right now, so. Texting it is. ]
[It is, thankfully, no longer any variety of Iris time, but while he'd like to put certain things behind him... well. Apparently, he can't, and he groans in annoyance when he sees the text.]
[All the evil stuff is just ironic or something, that's all.]
You think I could get anything DONE in the past week??? I'm still acclimating to the technology here. Taking some time to make sure I can put things together right.
[He quickly fires off another text.]
Not for the sexbots. For bots in general.
[While he focuses on his device, he tries not to make "eye contact" with the thing he'd started building after the previous conversation.]
most bad guys are extremely narcissistic and have a general dislike for mankind, but maybe i'm counting my chickens too early before they hatch hatch from your eggman bots
[ A break in his text as well. ]
it's alright to admit you tried making a sex toy this is sex land after all
[ Gintoki is dumb sometimes, but he's not so dumb that he would message Robotnik during Iris since he's pretty sure the other man would out right reject him if he did this during then.
Instead, he opts for Cordis.. which is his cycle. But he isn't going to tell him that it's his cycle. He's very curious about something, after all. ]
[It's not Iris yet, but it's getting close, and Robotnik's been trying to make sure he's ready this time. Not that he hasn't been doing a shit-ton of work otherwise, because he's always doing a shit-ton of work, but still.
He gets the message and groans, having thought (hoped) his "friend" might have forgotten. Oh well. One (1) break. He will take one (1) break.]
I have a feeling if I say no, I'll never hear the end of it.
[When he shows up at the cafe, he's dressed casually (all-black, evil villain casual, fingerless gloves included) and followed by a floating egg-shaped drone which scans the area for the target. Friend. Whatever.
If there's ever been someone who's the sheer embodiment of not wanting to be there, it's him.]
[ So nice to finally meet in person. It's Cordis, and Gintoki's traits are kitsune-like. He smells too sweet, like strawberries, which happen to be his favorite fruit. His attention settles upon the drone, first, and he taps it idly with his finger. Then, he talks to it like it's where he places his order. ]
I'd like a caramel macchiato with chocolate drizzle.
are u kidding?? there's tons of ppl here i'm sure i could find someone butt i was just thinking about who i know and i thought of u!! esp since i didn't see u around.. i take it ur not out enjoying the festivities???
Hey Robotman. I got some Chroma and supplies. Can we meet up somewhere?
[Hijikata hitting Robotnik up a couple of weeks after they met at the farmer's market may seem in line with what they agreed on, but so much stuff happened in the meantime, he feels exhausted just thinking about it. That said the actual reason he's keeping his message vague is that he doesn't want government agents to have a data trail of them talking about drone development. This is for the good of Lunatia, but you never know!]
About time. Normally I'd be fine meeting up, but right now is not a good time.
[He's been working on his own things, and frankly didn't expect anything to come out of all of that, so it's kind of a surprise, and not a terrible one.
Unfortunately, mid-month happens to be right on time for Iris hell week.]
See you in a few days? I take it you have a location in mind.
[Iris time isn't even on Hijikata's radar right now, so he's just once again surprised at how refreshingly blunt Robotnik is. He assumes that he's probably simply booked with other stuff at the moment.]
That works, but I can also send you the Chroma remotely, along with some pictures I took of the electronics. Maybe that'll already help you decide what's useful and what isn't.
[He only took a few smallish boxes full of items for the time being, wanting confirmation of what is actually valuable for Robotnik's drone project.]
[If Robotnik wanted to see Hijikata go through the five stages of grief in as many seconds he halfway succeeded. He rapidly cycles through shock, disbelief and denial until there's a super fast upturn at the final reveal.]
I really appreciate that! Can I run it on my device, or..?
[Sheesh, who knew drones were so complicated? It's not like they're highly sophisticated machines or anything!]
Edited (WOW my browser-memorised header slipped...) 2020-08-20 22:41 (UTC)
[Hijikata follows it with his eyes, already happy with just its smooth motions. It's not puttering around or anything, that's great.]
I know we're only getting started, but how many of these can one person control at once? I just want to know if I'll need to recruit some colleagues or others into this project.
[He won't ask Robotnik himself to help with the actual combat because inventors like him don't belong on the frontline - sure, this seems like a remote control job, but how remote is too remote?]
[Everything always takes way longer than expected around here, but what else is new? With the ghosts, flooding and mecha battle a couple of months ago and then the uncanny nightmares that got people waking up gored last month how was Robotnik supposed to get any work completed? Not to mention the moon phases, of course... to be fair, Hijikata got distracted left and right too. Now that things are back on track (if only for the time being) and another triple moon phase is past them he messages Robotnik.]
I wanted to check in on how things are looking with the drones. I know of a lot of shit happened (as usual), so no worries of you need more time, but I've got a copycat charm that's topped up to the max (Lumi retired and put everything up for grabs, in case you haven't heard - not sure if much good stuff if left now, though).
[Robotnik's had more work than he's had lately, but that's the way he likes it. Still, despite everything he's got on his plate, he's been working on the drones along the way.]
Things are looking very good. I have more space to work these days so it's not difficult to put them together. I've had the ones I've built here patrolling the shop and they seem to be functioning perfectly, so I think I've replicated them just about the best I could. If you'd just like to copy my original, though, that's fine too.
[Hijikata still leads a very offline life, all things considered, but he thought he saw a post from Robotnik mentioning that he now has a workshop or somesuch... good for him to be moving up!]
Neat. I'll copy both, that way we can monitor them in tandem. If one has an issue we can check that on its counterpart.
[Just in case there's a hardware fault or whatnot.]
Can I come over now? Or tomorrow?
[He's wary of the usual end-of-the-month bullshit approaching...]
Reasonable. I sincerely doubt there'll be anything that comes up, but we might as well still check.
And you can come over any time, I don't have anything too pressing. If you aren't aware yet, I'll send you my new location. You can find me there from now on.
[He provides the address of his new shop/lab/warehouse.]

You can. I designed the controls to be as... simplistic as possible. Watch.
