Hey Robotman. How are you? I just sent more Chroma. Sorry for the delay with the parts, I got sidetracked by the dragon mating season.

[He's not even going to try and attempt to make this sound any better than it is. This time around Robotnik receives about twice as much Chroma as last time. It should be enough to buy a really nice new car (or whatever people drive here instead) or a full wardrobe of luxury designs... but please don't spend it on stuff like that.]

I still have to find a delivery service to take care of the full-sized part deliveries; I don't have a vehicle for that. But I can come over and bring the samples for now.

[Wait, it's Iris time again... what's with his shitty timing?!]

I can just leave them at your door, I guess. Unless you'd rather meet on neutral ground later.

You can just call me Dr. Robotnik. [Like that's easier.] Got your payment. I've been working on some concepts, although I did have to take a break for similar reasons.

[On one hand, he made some Chroma himself that went beyond holding hands and was therefore relatively significant. On the other hand, he's still kicking himself for actually giving into various instincts that were forced upon him. It sucks!!!

He's hoping whatever wild stuff happens this time doesn't involve more messing with his mind. Why does he ever even leave his apartment?]

You are terrible at picking a good time for things, you know that? You can just drop things off, I'll pick it up when the coast is clear.

[This is why you exchange proper names, not only network handles!! Well, better for him to learn this now than never. As for the A/B/Ostella incidents, Hijikata is applying a strict "look only ahead" policy at the moment. It may all catch up with him later on, but for the time being he's simply focusing on his Moon Knight work with full force. Well, and on his drone development investments.]

[He gives him the apartment number/area/whatever. He's not particularly concerned about giving people that information, all things considered.]

[Robotnik is so odd. Hijikata almost wonders if he should second-guess what kind of person he's funneling all his Chroma over to here, but the at this point the sunk cost fallacy has already kicked in, so he decides to just turn a blind eye to any oddities... for now.]

Let me know when you're at a stage with the drones where I can come over and learn to control them, OK? I'll get someone hired for the proper material deliveries in the meantime.

[Whenever Robotnik next peeks out of his door later that day he'll find a small stack of shoebox-sized cartons filled with electronic bits and pieces. Enjoy!]

I'll get back to work as soon as I can.

[Oh, he enjoys the bits and pieces immensely, although it takes him a lot of effort not to try and use them for his other projects. This is what he's being paid for, Iris bullshit or no. And, eventually, after a good bit of work and the skipping of a festival, he comes up with something towards the end of the month, before the cycles begin anew.

It's not quite perfect, but he also doesn't intend on giving others access to his best work right away anyway. It'll work for this particular function. An egg-shaped drone, similar to the one that came from home, with only the smaller guns and not so many features. Just a prototype.]

The prototype's ready whenever it works out for the both of us. If you try to come at the next Iris cycle I can and will use it to end you.

[An empty threat here, maybe, but a threat nonetheless.]

[He can't help but laugh when he reads the new message.]

[If there's no objection he'll just be sauntering from his block to Robotnik's, and this time he will ring the doorbell. Luckily the festival went over without a hitch, so he's pretty relaxed right now.]

[When he hears the doorbell ring, he opens the door.

The drone that's been following him around for a while is there floating behind him, but so is a similar one, a little less sleek and aesthetically pleasing upon further inspection, but it's floating in the air nonetheless.]

Okay, come in. Hurry up.

[He heads back into the apartment, which is covered in various parts and tools and robot arms and it's definitely been decorated in a way that says "mad scientist." Please ignore the machines in the corner that have some very specific moonblessing purposes.]

[He follows, closing the door behind him, and curiously glances around, but luckily the two drones are his main focus.]

You were able to make two? That's great!

[Robotnik shakes his head, gesturing at the better-looking of the two drones.]

One. I mean, I could have made more with more time, but it's better to get one done correctly before you start mass-producing them. This is one of my originals. From home.

[He reaches a hand out and brushes a hand over the drone like he's petting a cat.]

The other is the prototype using local materials. Not bad for a first pass, right?

Yeah, it looks fine.

[He isn't in this for the aesthetics!]

But seeing these two next to each other makes me think... these are purely mechanical, right? No magical components? I wonder if they'd still work fine if we simply copied them. That shady guy, Lumi, sells charms for that in his shop, but I also know a magical boy who can copy stuff as one of his abilities.

Mechanical. While I've been working on studying how magic works, I still prefer nice, reasonable, nonmagical technology.

[And working from the ground up's difficult even for a genius! But he's not inherently magical or anything so it makes sense.]

...Copying them would make the manufacturing process faster, yes. I don't think using magical means should stop them from functioning correctly, but I haven't tried.

Let's try that out, then. But for now just teach me how to operate them. I hope it's not too complicated.

[If he can't get a hang of it he'll simply recruit someone who can. He doesn't care about personally having the power of a drone army behind him, just about someone protecting the city with it.]

[He pats the nicer drone of the two.]

That one's mine. As for control, it's incredibly complicated.

[He spreads his fingers, showing off the series of buttons on the pair of fingerless gloves he's wearing.]
