Hey Robotman. I got some Chroma and supplies. Can we meet up somewhere?
[Hijikata hitting Robotnik up a couple of weeks after they met at the farmer's market may seem in line with what they agreed on, but so much stuff happened in the meantime, he feels exhausted just thinking about it. That said the actual reason he's keeping his message vague is that he doesn't want government agents to have a data trail of them talking about drone development. This is for the good of Lunatia, but you never know!]
About time. Normally I'd be fine meeting up, but right now is not a good time.
[He's been working on his own things, and frankly didn't expect anything to come out of all of that, so it's kind of a surprise, and not a terrible one.
Unfortunately, mid-month happens to be right on time for Iris hell week.]
See you in a few days? I take it you have a location in mind.
[Iris time isn't even on Hijikata's radar right now, so he's just once again surprised at how refreshingly blunt Robotnik is. He assumes that he's probably simply booked with other stuff at the moment.]
That works, but I can also send you the Chroma remotely, along with some pictures I took of the electronics. Maybe that'll already help you decide what's useful and what isn't.
[He only took a few smallish boxes full of items for the time being, wanting confirmation of what is actually valuable for Robotnik's drone project.]
[That's a good attitude, Hijikata likes that. Robotnik's mention of the 19th finally makes him conclude why now might be a bad time to meet, too.]
Oh, are you an Iris?
[Luckily he manages to stop himself from adding "My condolences". Just because he would have a bad time being an Iris that doesn't mean it's a punishment for everybody! He proceeds to send a dozen or so photos of assorted electronic junk - or, let's say, discarded components that aren't necessarily broken. He actually put some effort into personally visiting several places (including a swiffy bot factory) and talking to the personnel about potential arrangements, hence his temporary access to the materials.]
[Condolences are appropriate in his case, although he doesn't really care if anyone feels bad about his issues or not. He's getting used to it, to a certain extent.
It takes him a while to reply, because his mind is also wandering to places it really doesn't need to be right now in terms of machinery. Things he can't use for this purpose might also be very helpful for his business plan. Still, everything seems useful enough to any extent.]
I should be able to use most of this. I'll be able to be more specific when I'm in my right mind because you do NOT want to hear my initial concepts right now.
[Robotnik will be receiving a nice amount of digital currency... sadly it's only 25% of the original sudden wealth Hijikata found himself in, given that two of his castmates already took their unfair share off him under threat of violence and mayonnaise crimes, but it's still a nice sum.]
Shit usually hits the fan in one way or another after the triple moon phase, so let's meet up next Cordis cycle, okay? Or otherwise I'll find some errand boy or girl to get the materials to you, because that's also when I start my job.
Got it. Very nice. I'm trying not to be too appreciative, otherwise I might not stop.
[Iris, man!]
That's reasonable. I have been noticing something of a pattern. In the meantime, I'll work on some blueprints or something. Just not now. Definitely not now.
[He's kind of incredulous at that initial response. Robotnik is an impossible guy.
Yeah, take it easy. Don't crystallise on me, OK?
[If Robotnik does Hijikata may just come over and forcibly sit back to back with him as they work and study. He invested a lot of time and hard-earned(???) Chroma in his inventions, dying is not allowed anymore, temporary as it would be!
He doesn't acknowledge the "thanks" in writing, but he sees it.]
Hey Robotman. How are you? I just sent more Chroma. Sorry for the delay with the parts, I got sidetracked by the dragon mating season.
[He's not even going to try and attempt to make this sound any better than it is. This time around Robotnik receives about twice as much Chroma as last time. It should be enough to buy a really nice new car (or whatever people drive here instead) or a full wardrobe of luxury designs... but please don't spend it on stuff like that.]
I still have to find a delivery service to take care of the full-sized part deliveries; I don't have a vehicle for that. But I can come over and bring the samples for now.
[Wait, it's Iris time again... what's with his shitty timing?!]
I can just leave them at your door, I guess. Unless you'd rather meet on neutral ground later.
You can just call me Dr. Robotnik. [Like that's easier.] Got your payment. I've been working on some concepts, although I did have to take a break for similar reasons.
[On one hand, he made some Chroma himself that went beyond holding hands and was therefore relatively significant. On the other hand, he's still kicking himself for actually giving into various instincts that were forced upon him. It sucks!!!
He's hoping whatever wild stuff happens this time doesn't involve more messing with his mind. Why does he ever even leave his apartment?]
You are terrible at picking a good time for things, you know that? You can just drop things off, I'll pick it up when the coast is clear.
[This is why you exchange proper names, not only network handles!! Well, better for him to learn this now than never. As for the A/B/Ostella incidents, Hijikata is applying a strict "look only ahead" policy at the moment. It may all catch up with him later on, but for the time being he's simply focusing on his Moon Knight work with full force. Well, and on his drone development investments.]
Yeah, sorry about that. Do you live in the Moonblessed apartments? Or else where should I leave it
[If Robotnik wanted to see Hijikata go through the five stages of grief in as many seconds he halfway succeeded. He rapidly cycles through shock, disbelief and denial until there's a super fast upturn at the final reveal.]
I really appreciate that! Can I run it on my device, or..?
[Sheesh, who knew drones were so complicated? It's not like they're highly sophisticated machines or anything!]
Edited (WOW my browser-memorised header slipped...) Date/Time: 2020-08-20 22:41 (UTC)
[Hijikata follows it with his eyes, already happy with just its smooth motions. It's not puttering around or anything, that's great.]
I know we're only getting started, but how many of these can one person control at once? I just want to know if I'll need to recruit some colleagues or others into this project.
[He won't ask Robotnik himself to help with the actual combat because inventors like him don't belong on the frontline - sure, this seems like a remote control job, but how remote is too remote?]
As of now? Only one, because there's only one. I can control a significant amount of my own, but I'm taking these new ones a little slowly. I haven't determined realistically the amount the app should be able to control in the end, but trust me, I'm gunning for multiples.
[He taps on his device pointedly, the drone making a lap around the apartment before parking itself in its previous hover over his shoulder.]
I'll send it to you and you can play around with this one, get the hang of it.
There's a basic camera you can access through the app. I haven't included any weapons or night vision or infrared or any of those exciting features just yet. This is the most stripped-down of models possible, meant solely as a... prototype of a prototype. Make sure you can work it, and then I can focus on adding features.
[As fun as it would be to potentially let all kinds of fun weapons loose on this place, it's not the best of ideas right now. Someday.]
[As soon as the application has finished loading on his device he installs it right away, and within minutes he's flying "his" drone around in Robotnik's apartment. He really isn't going away, is he?]
Wow, it's really easy!
[He tries out the camera and breaks into a smile as everything the drone "sees" shows up on his screen.]
This will be such a big help with the crime-fighting! Thanks, Doctor, really.
[He closes the program, leaving the drone to hover in place, and crosses his arms, thinking of how to best proceed.]
Before we pump energy into making more I want to speak with my contact about the copy thing. I didn't know you had one from home, but seeing how it's already complete with all functions we could simply copy that one, if that's okay for you. If you don't want to lend it to me I can send the man over here instead, provided he agrees. Alternatively I guess you could finish the second one first, if you want to make any adjustments the original one doesn't have, and I'll have it copied once it's completed.
[It'll remain to be sees how effective the drones even are against the threats Lunatia may face, but Hijikata is pretty optimistic right now.]
[Robotnik watches the drone fly around, not particularly impressed, but he's at least glad he made it easy enough for someone else to figure out. There's a certain inelegance to using an app rather than the gesture controls, but oh well. At the question, though, he shakes his head.]
This one is designed specifically for my purposes. While I technically could reprogram it, I didn't bring it in so I could just completely change it. I wanted it as is. And I'm not going to reprogram a bunch of copies either. I'm designing this, [he gestures at the other drone], for here. So I'll finish that, give it the features I think it needs, and then we can send that into mass production.
[Sure, it's more work, but he'd rather do more work than do things this way.]
[It definitely did look a lot less dramatic, but what can you do. Hijikata nods in agreement with Robotnik's assessment.]
That makes sense, yeah. I'll leave you to it, then! You don't need to keep me updated, just tell me if you need anything - more parts, more funds -, and otherwise let me know when it's in a state you're happy to release for copying. I'll make the arrangements for that in the meantime, but don't feel rushed. There's no deadline.
[He says that like Robotnik isn't calling the shots on the time frame here anyway.]
Alright. Make sure to let me know if it can be copied as is so I know whether I should invest any time in the materials to make more or not.
[But copying the thing should certainly save on funds in the first place, so as much as he likes to build things himself... it's far more efficient this way.
And he can maybe work on getting himself a whole lab rather than working out of his apartment.]
I don't expect this to take too long. The more complicated processes are finished. Just need to finalize it. It shouldn't be too much of a wait.
[He looks at the two drones once more. They have enough plans and contingency plans for when Robotnik is done with the new model (Plan A: engage magical help, Plan B: clone the drone in small sets via copycat charms, Plan C: if all copy attempts fail, continue traditional production), so Hijikata is content.]
I there's anything going awry at all you know how to reach me.
[Despite his absolute minimum amount of actual controls testing he's happy to leave Robotnik to his work now. While he has no qualms about subjecting introverted inventors to his important matters he also knows first-hand that people need some breathing room to get actual work done... unless they're slackers like his goddamned subordinate back home.]

[Inspecting the pictures should at least help distract him from all those annoying Iris issues for a little while, so he can't complain about that.]
Then we can schedule the meetup for a better time. I should be free starting the 19th.

[He will! Especially since this next eventful clusterfuck is going to involve some Heavy Moonlacing.
But as of right now, he's just trying to get through this moon bullshit again.]
Don't worry about it.

You can. I designed the controls to be as... simplistic as possible. Watch.
