[That is certainly a lot of emotions all at once. Robotnik regards them with little care before moving his attention to his own device.]

You can. I designed the controls to be as... simplistic as possible. Watch.

[The better looking drone hovers slowly and silently as Robotnik works the app and the second one starts moving, from left to right and in a circle.]

[Hijikata follows it with his eyes, already happy with just its smooth motions. It's not puttering around or anything, that's great.]

I know we're only getting started, but how many of these can one person control at once? I just want to know if I'll need to recruit some colleagues or others into this project.

[He won't ask Robotnik himself to help with the actual combat because inventors like him don't belong on the frontline - sure, this seems like a remote control job, but how remote is too remote?]

As of now? Only one, because there's only one. I can control a significant amount of my own, but I'm taking these new ones a little slowly. I haven't determined realistically the amount the app should be able to control in the end, but trust me, I'm gunning for multiples.

[He taps on his device pointedly, the drone making a lap around the apartment before parking itself in its previous hover over his shoulder.]

So how many functions does this one have right now? I understand the motion controls on principle, I think, but can it do other stuff already?

[Like function as a spy camera or shoot lasers?]

There's a basic camera you can access through the app. I haven't included any weapons or night vision or infrared or any of those exciting features just yet. This is the most stripped-down of models possible, meant solely as a... prototype of a prototype. Make sure you can work it, and then I can focus on adding features.

[As fun as it would be to potentially let all kinds of fun weapons loose on this place, it's not the best of ideas right now. Someday.]

[As soon as the application has finished loading on his device he installs it right away, and within minutes he's flying "his" drone around in Robotnik's apartment. He really isn't going away, is he?]

Wow, it's really easy!

[He tries out the camera and breaks into a smile as everything the drone "sees" shows up on his screen.]

This will be such a big help with the crime-fighting! Thanks, Doctor, really.

[He closes the program, leaving the drone to hover in place, and crosses his arms, thinking of how to best proceed.]

Before we pump energy into making more I want to speak with my contact about the copy thing. I didn't know you had one from home, but seeing how it's already complete with all functions we could simply copy that one, if that's okay for you. If you don't want to lend it to me I can send the man over here instead, provided he agrees. Alternatively I guess you could finish the second one first, if you want to make any adjustments the original one doesn't have, and I'll have it copied once it's completed.

[It'll remain to be sees how effective the drones even are against the threats Lunatia may face, but Hijikata is pretty optimistic right now.]

[Robotnik watches the drone fly around, not particularly impressed, but he's at least glad he made it easy enough for someone else to figure out. There's a certain inelegance to using an app rather than the gesture controls, but oh well. At the question, though, he shakes his head.]

This one is designed specifically for my purposes. While I technically could reprogram it, I didn't bring it in so I could just completely change it. I wanted it as is. And I'm not going to reprogram a bunch of copies either. I'm designing this, [he gestures at the other drone], for here. So I'll finish that, give it the features I think it needs, and then we can send that into mass production.

[Sure, it's more work, but he'd rather do more work than do things this way.]

[It definitely did look a lot less dramatic, but what can you do. Hijikata nods in agreement with Robotnik's assessment.]

That makes sense, yeah. I'll leave you to it, then! You don't need to keep me updated, just tell me if you need anything - more parts, more funds -, and otherwise let me know when it's in a state you're happy to release for copying. I'll make the arrangements for that in the meantime, but don't feel rushed. There's no deadline.

[He says that like Robotnik isn't calling the shots on the time frame here anyway.]

Alright. Make sure to let me know if it can be copied as is so I know whether I should invest any time in the materials to make more or not.

[But copying the thing should certainly save on funds in the first place, so as much as he likes to build things himself... it's far more efficient this way.

And he can maybe work on getting himself a whole lab rather than working out of his apartment.]

I don't expect this to take too long. The more complicated processes are finished. Just need to finalize it. It shouldn't be too much of a wait.

[He looks at the two drones once more. They have enough plans and contingency plans for when Robotnik is done with the new model (Plan A: engage magical help, Plan B: clone the drone in small sets via copycat charms, Plan C: if all copy attempts fail, continue traditional production), so Hijikata is content.]

I there's anything going awry at all you know how to reach me.

[Despite his absolute minimum amount of actual controls testing he's happy to leave Robotnik to his work now. While he has no qualms about subjecting introverted inventors to his important matters he also knows first-hand that people need some breathing room to get actual work done... unless they're slackers like his goddamned subordinate back home.]

Nothing's going awry.

[It's going as well as it can when he doesn't have most of his machines and he doesn't have any kind of "proper" lab. He has no doubt he's going to get this done, whether he has to make one or he has to make a hundred.

Either way, he's down for the task.]

If you find any other interesting parts for any reason, feel free to drop them off. Just, you know, try to avoid any unpleasant times for it.
