I could try practicing sigil-writing, in case I ever get trapped someplace underground and leave a dying message. Could prove useful in a place like this.

That's a perfectly reasonable pursuit, at least. Make sure to convey the most information in the least amount of time.

Drawings tell a lot more, and they convey ideas better than words. Something like "Death" or "important landmark" easily translated throughout the ages.

You hope, anyway. Someone in the future is always going to misinterpret something, and they're going to do it terribly.

See, this is why we gotta keep archaeology an ongoing field. If there's enough people that know what to look for, there's a greater chance that the original meaning survives.

That, and making sure oral history doesn't die out, but considering the Gods here, there's a risk of every cultist or villager getting wiped out in a month.

Ah, great Chance. Even if you have a huge collection of competent archeologists, someday little Timmy Diploma Mill is gonna come by with some spicy takes.

This is particularly fertile ground for the great game of telephone.

It's a big possibility. Either my body is never found, or they find it and get what I wrote, or they find it and never figure out what really happened.

And there's no telling if I'll end up a fun mystery or just another that's overlooked.

But no one here will remember me by then, yeah? No one alive will feel insulted..

Sounds like you've given this particular scenario a lot of thought.

Pretty sure that no matter what, somehow, there'll be some memory of that big group of weirdos who got sucked here and turned into monsters and ate everyone. Stuff of legends, that one.

Hopefully we'll be remembered as the era of monsters from another world, separate from the era when monsters and humans got along just fine. The Fog cult folks still have some writing about punishment for their sins. Though they were almost lost to time.
